7 Dramatic Cliff Views in Bali

Bali’s coastline is framed by dramatic cliffs as well as beaches. From Uluwatu’s limestone headlands to the island views around Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida, these viewpoints offer different ways to enjoy the sea.

This guide covers seven places, their facilities and route ideas. Fees below are references from the original guide and may differ by visitor category or local policy; confirm current entry and parking charges on arrival.

1. Karang Boma Cliff, Uluwatu

Location: Pecatu, South Kuta, Badung.

Fee reference: The original guide listed free entry, with motorbike parking at IDR 5,000 and car parking at IDR 10,000. Local entry arrangements can change, so do not assume admission remains free.

The high headland overlooks the Indian Ocean and is particularly appealing in late-afternoon light. Its open sea view is the main draw. Facilities are basic: parking, natural photo spots and small stalls.

Visit before dark and stay well back from the edge. Some sections have no protective barrier, and wind can be strong.

2. Pura Luhur Uluwatu: Cliffs and Balinese Culture

Location: Pecatu, South Kuta, Badung.

Fee references: Domestic admission IDR 30,000, international admission IDR 50,000 and Kecak performance admission IDR 150,000 in the original guide. These are separate charges and should be reconfirmed for the visit date.

The sacred temple stands above steep sea cliffs. Visitors often combine the setting with sunset and a separately ticketed Kecak performance. Paths, toilets, stalls and cultural performances support the visit.

Wear the required sarong and respect restricted sacred areas. Secure glasses, phones and loose belongings around the monkeys, and follow staff guidance.

3. Balangan Beach Clifftop

Location: The Balangan coast, South Kuta, Badung, in the wider Jimbaran area.

Fee reference: Free entry, with motorbike parking around IDR 5,000 and cars around IDR 10,000 in the original guide; confirm local charges.

From above, the long beach, surf and warm late-afternoon light create a popular backdrop for couple and pre-wedding photographs. Food stalls, beach cafés and paths down to the beach are available in the wider area.

A photo session must still respect safe access and other visitors. Do not stand near an unprotected edge to get a photograph.

4. Pandawa Beach’s Limestone Cliffs

Location: Kutuh, South Kuta, Badung.

Fee reference: IDR 8,000 per person, plus motorbike parking IDR 5,000 or car parking IDR 10,000 in the original guide. Current rates may vary by visitor category.

The access road passes between tall limestone walls featuring figures from the Pandawa story. Panoramic viewpoints look towards the beach. Parking, toilets, stalls and canoe rental are among the beach-area facilities.

Use designated stopping areas; do not block the access road for photographs.

5. Blue Lagoon, Nusa Ceningan

Location: Nusa Ceningan, Klungkung.

Fee reference: Free viewpoint access and parking around IDR 5,000–10,000 in the original guide, subject to local arrangements.

Bright blue water and powerful waves against the rocks make this a distinctive cliff-view stop. Facilities are limited to an open viewpoint and small local stalls.

This is a viewing location, not a safe swimming recommendation: currents and waves can be powerful. Keep away from exposed edges and wave splash zones.

6. Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida

Location: Nusa Penida, Klungkung.

Fee references: IDR 10,000 per person at the viewpoint and approximately IDR 150,000–250,000 for a one-way fast boat in the original guide. Confirm the operator, port, current island levies and local parking or access fees separately.

The T-Rex-shaped headland is one of Bali’s most recognisable coastal views. Parking, toilets and local stalls are available near the upper visitor area.

Viewing from above is different from attempting the steep beach descent. Assess conditions, follow restrictions and do not assume the beach or sea below is safe to access.

7. Melasti Cliffs, Ungasan

Location: Ungasan, South Kuta, Badung.

Fee reference: IDR 10,000–15,000 per person, with motorbike parking IDR 5,000 and car parking IDR 10,000 in the original guide. Confirm current rates.

The winding road through high limestone walls is a major part of Melasti’s scenery. The beach district includes paved access, parking, toilets, beach clubs and local food stalls.

Stop only at designated safe places and check separate beach-club entry requirements before using their facilities.

General Visiting Tips

  • Time: Mornings around 7–10 a.m. can be quieter. Late afternoon, roughly 4:30–6:30 p.m., suits sunset at west-facing locations; daylight and weather vary.
  • Footwear: Wear shoes or sandals with reliable grip on dirt, sand and limestone paths.
  • Distance: Stay well away from unprotected edges, especially in gusty conditions.
  • Essentials: Bring drinking water, sun protection, a hat and your camera.
  • Respect: Follow local rules, dress appropriately at temples and take rubbish away.

Route Ideas

Option 1: A Short South Bali Outing

Choose Pandawa or Melasti, then either Karang Boma or Uluwatu Temple for late afternoon. The original guide grouped all four into a half day; traffic, entry queues and Kecak timing make a smaller selection more relaxed.

Option 2: A Full Day in South Bali

Consider Pandawa in the morning, Balangan and lunch around midday, then Melasti if time allows. Finish at Karang Boma or Uluwatu, leaving enough time for transfers and any booked performance.

Option 3: The Offshore Islands

Blue Lagoon is on Nusa Ceningan, while Kelingking is on Nusa Penida. They require different island transport arrangements and should not be treated as neighbouring car stops. Plan boat connections carefully and consider an overnight stay on Penida or Lembongan rather than a rushed combination.

Getting Around Comfortably

A suitable vehicle can help with transfers between mainland viewpoints, but no rental car replaces safe access or island-boat arrangements.
